Fiberglass Chair by Vladimir Kagan & Ralph Pucci
The Vladimir Kagan / Ralph Pucci collaboration on making fiberglass chairs were born from a simple conversation and appearance of the sketch in 1950′s Kagan’s designs in various materials, including fiberglass that never developed.
Vladimir Kagan always wanted to do a plastic chair, as his design was so suited to the medium. When Ralph Pucci look at some of the designs of the 1950s, reacted quickly and simply, why can not a sculptors and mannequin workshops generate these ideas. He also felt this project very smoothly because of the upcoming exhibition at the MOMA by Ron Arad. Ralph looked back the design sketch by Michael Evert, Vladimir Kagan agreed that it would use the idea, but a new seat design. Within a week of Vladimir produce a clay model of a miniature chair. The next week they began to build a full-scale mockup of clay.
To Vladimir, working with flexible materials is an experience that truly liberating. To Ralph common sense to take advantage of his mannequins workspace facilities and creating something different and new, all in accordance with the mind to move forward.
The result is a limited edition collection of fiberglass now see, is produced in the casting of black or gray, and clear and white.
